Wiscasset, Maine - Past and Present

Until the late 1990s, two four-masted schooners which had been abandoned in the harbor were popular tourist attractions. Possibly the most photographed objects in Maine, these relic vessels provided an interesting look into Maine’s past until the last masts were destroyed by weather and the wreckage was removed by the town. Still an excellent hot-spot for tourism, Wiscasset, located on route 1, is frequented for its village which is known as “The prettiest village in Maine.” Abundant antique and specialty shops and a few top rated restaurants including Red’s Eats (which boasts the best lobster rolls in Maine) continue to draw the attention of both the locals and visitors alike.
