Greetings and Hello.
This site is intended to assist people in their Maine real estate search. It strives to provide useful information on the Southern, Portland and Mid Coastal Maine housing markets specifically geared towards:
- First Time Maine Homebuyers
- Parties looking to Relocate to Maine
- Investment property in Southern Maine
- The counties of York, Cumberland and Sagadahoc
My name is John Herrigel, the founder and primary content writer for this website.
I love Maine and I love real estate! I am continually working to provide professional, superior service through knowledge of the markets, negotiating skills and human relations.
As my business has grown I have been able to continue providing the highest quality service with the help of a few fantastic individuals and have found more heads are better than one. My sincere thanks to Theresa, Veronica, Shawn L., Shawn B. and Mike.
Our Specific Areas of Expertise Include:
- Greater Portland Residential Homes - Single Family & Condo's
- Coastal waterfront property in mid-coast Maine
- Maine Investment Real Estate in Portland, Brunswick and Bath.
If you are not yet working with an agent, I simply ask that you give me and my team a chance to help you out. There are no obligations and it costs nothing to simply ask a questions about the market, the process or even a specific home.
My Life Outside of Real Estate
I love the work I do and thus when not immersing myself in all aspects of real estate, I love spending time with family/friends enjoying the outdoors and traveling. I am an avid sailor and boater in the summer and try to get out and enjoy the winter as best I can be it running or skiing.
2 years ago I took a 6 month hiatus from real estate to sail from Maine to the Caribbean and back aboard our dear yet alas lost to a storm, S/V Audax.
View trip blog here.
I currently live in Portland, help coach the Cape Elizabeth high school sailing team and assist with tennis and sailing instruction at a local camp in the summer. One of my more recent endeavors is lobstering. Here is a picture of my pseudo homemade vessel! :) Note: Any resident of Maine is actually entitled to a 5 trap recreational license! Come join me!
My Life Before Real Estate
Alas I will always be considered "From Away," but I continue to do my best to blend in with the "native" population.
I am originally from Chatham, New Jersey. In my earlier years I played a ton of tennis (still do!!) and hockey. I guess I was somewhat of an entrepreneur as well, building/running a landscaping service and researching/investing in publicly traded companies.
I attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a degree in Economics in 2002. Perhaps my fondest memory of my college years was when I spent a semester aboard a 125 foot tall ship...the SSV Corwith Cramer through a fantastic program known as SEA education.
I have had the luxury of spending every summer of my life on the coast of Maine, specifically in Small Point and West Point on the peninsula of Phippsburg. Sailing and boating continue to be my favorite endeavors.
I moved permanently to Maine after graduating college. Organizations/companies/jobs I have worked at and been affiliated with in the past include Eagle Point Enterprises, an affordable housing real estate development company, carpentry as a self employed handyman, hospitality managment at Rock Gardens Inn, Migis Lodge and the Cape Arundel Inn, and web design work.
I am currently active with the following organizations:
- Portland Board of REALTORS
- Maine Association of Realtors
- National Association of Realtors
- Maine Island Trail Association
- Small Point Summer School - Help Direct this summer day camp
- Cape Elizabeth High School Sailing Coach
Accreditations/Accomplishments
- Associate Broker with 5 plus years of experience
- Over 10 Million in recent sales volume
- Short Sale and Foreclosure Certified
- Dale Carnegie Real Estate Course
- Currently pursuing my ABR degree

A Maine buyers agent is somebody who works for you and and NOT THE SELLER in a transaction. In the state of Maine, there is an agent that represents the seller and an agent whom represents the buyer. Dual agency is when the sellers agent represents the buyer as well.
